Head on over TODAY and become a member of our exciting new site MyAnonamouse.net for the BEST in audiobook, ebooks and ALL things for the musician such as sheets, music books, instructional videos, etc. See you there! http://www.myanonamouse.net
The intent of the method contained in this book is to offer guidance to the pupil or teacher for a progressive, step by step study of the elements of improvisation.

Too many books in this field talk about what is needed and where, but many of those books fail to present the necessary hands-on application of these concepts. The remedy of that missing element is exactly what I have aimed at with this volume, “Introductory Studies for the Improvising Guitarist”. For years and years I have witnessed through music instruction with all types of students how the practice concepts contained in this book take root in such an efficient manner that I have come to believe that anyone can learn to improvise; as long as the study of it happens in a progressive and practical, hands on the instrument, manner.

This book is great as a blueprint for a teacher who is serious about giving students an effective way of learning improvisation, be it in the styles of jazz, country, rock, or pop. As a stand-alone guide however, “Introductory Studies for the Improvising guitarist” will enable any guitarist with the necessary interest and discipline to easily work, on his/her own, through all chapters since the method is structured in a way that will encourage the student to pace him-/herself. One should move on to the next chapter only when things up to that point have been fully learned; that means in the fingers, on the guitar – and not just read and thought about.

When working with this book, it is of great importance to seriously consider the repeated reminders to learn new elements fully before moving on. Positive practice can only be facilitated when all new things are taken through the three steps of learning:

1. logging

2. repeating

3. applying

Learning will be fun and progress easily witnessed when making this way of practicing a habit. We will simply forget that great new blues line that we might have spent hours on just getting it off of a recording, if we don't practice it repeatedly and, consecutively, play into our musical psyche by applying it to music... that initial practice time will be wasted, for naught, if we don't follow though on those three steps and get used to doing things in that way.

While the bulk of this excursion on improvisation elaborates on scalar material, the last two chapters “...” and “...” venture into the world of bebop improvisation; with the latter previewing the first chapter of my other book “Bebop Improv Concepts” as a taste for how to make the changes – again in a hands-on fashion.

Both musical staff, tabulature and guitar diagrams are used for illustrations in this book.

Corresponding audio-tracks are included as mp3 files.
